Prop 39: No

A “papers, please” measure. Do not do voter suppression.
Oakland Review of Books
Prop 39: No

“Voter Identification, Citizenship Verification, and Registered Voter List Administration Initiative”

This is very easy—a “papers, please” measure that is very obviously an effort at voter suppression. It is funded by Richard Uihlein, a Republican donor based in Illinois. Along with this, he is also funding an absolute grab bag of the worst right-wing causes: a transphobic ballot initiative in Maine that I refuse to read about, the campaigns of candidates who participated in sedition during the January 6 insurrection, and just about anything that will “punish leftists.” Prop 39 would require voters to present government-issued ID at the polls or provide the last four digits of a government-issued ID number on their mail-in ballots.

ORB Voting Guide 2026
We humbly submit the opposite of the Nextdoor slate.

(You should, by the way, be extremely skeptical of any candidate who loudly supported efforts to suppress votes like President Trump’s SAVE Act until they needed your vote and then suddenly decided to delete all their tweets about it. It is not “smart” to do voter suppression. There are no ends that justify the means. We don’t encourage people to vote because it will help us win; we encourage people to vote because in a healthy democracy, it’s the right thing to do. Prop 39 is an easy no. It’s also a convenient litmus test you can use on your local candidates!)

Vote no on Prop 39, and vote hell no on anyone who smells like they might support it.
